EREX Petrophysics and Modeling School

Good understanding of the principles of reservoir engineering, especially Reservoir Modeling, is essential for improving estimation of reserves, predicting future production, placing additional wells and evaluating alternative reservoir management plans. Reservoir Models are constructed by deep studying of petrophysical properties of reservoir rocks. Hence, AAPG Suez in collaboration with EREX company provided Petrophysics and Reservoir Modeling School over two days.

Date : Petrophysics day 29/7 , Reservoir Modeling day 5/8

Location : EREX headquarters, Cairo Governorate

Attendees : 14 students , 7 on each day

"Petrophysics day" discussed significant topics :
  • Tools theories which include GR, resistivity, density, sonic and neutron.
  • Manual Lithology Interpretation.
  • Manual Evaluation including porosity, shale volume and water saturation.
"Reservoir Modeling day" discussed significant topics :
  • Structural frame work modeling and data analysis.
  • Building a representative facing model.
  • Population of petrophysical properties in 3D grid.
  • Volumetric calculations.

Petroleum Traps

Trap is a place where oil andgas are barred from further movement. The word trap was first applied to a hydrocarbon accumulation by Orton ( 1889 ). A trap may contain oil, gas or both depending on the chemistry and level of maturation of the source rock and on the pressure and temperature of the reservoir itself.

Halliburton directional drilling session

On Tuesday 8th, Decemeber, AAPG Suez organized a technical session about directional drilling at El-Ma'mal (hall 21) held by the directional drilling manager at Halliburton Dr. Diab Saad.
